HERE ARE THE FOUR SIMPLE STEPS TO FOLLOW TO REPLICATE THIS MODEL!

REQUIRED TOOLS AND MATERIALS

  • Measure tape
  • Pencil
  • Mitre saw
  • Drill
  • 3/16 in bit
  • Nail gun
  • 2 in nails for nail gun
  • 1 board of brown treated lumber
    of 1 1/4 in x 6 in x 8 ft
  • Sandpaper (# 80)
  • Outdoor wood glue
  • Outdoor wood filler
  • SAMAN teak oil
  • Rust-resistant numbers
    (e.g., 5 in HILLMAN Distinction)
  • 2 brown treated wood screws of 2 1/2 in
  • Potting soil
  • Flowers at your choice

PREPARATION

Use the mitre saw to cut the wood board following the measurements below:

  • 1 piece of 36 in for the base
  • 3 pieces of 5 1/4 in each
  • 1 piece of 4 3/4 in

Sand all the pieces. Keep two pieces of trims of 1 to 2 in each. If you wish them to be less visible once affixed to the wall, paint them the same colour than your house front.

1- ASSEMBLE THE FLOWER BOX

  • Using a drill and a 3/16 in bit, drill several holes at the centre of the 4 3/4 in wood piece that will be used as the box bottom. That is to ensure proper draining. On one of the slices of this same piece, apply wood glue and affix a 5 1/4 in piece, forming a right angle.
  • Use the nail gun to strenghten the joint between the two pieces. With a second piece of 5 1/4 in, repeat the same actions on the opposite side of the box bottom. Apply glue on the three pieces’ top slice, and place the last 5 1/4 in piece. Attach with the nail gun.

2- ATTACH THE FLOWER BOX TO THE WALL SUPPORT

  • Glue the box built at step 1 at the bottom of the 36 in board, on which the numbers will be affixed. Solidify with nails on the flower box sides from the back of the board. Fill in the nail holes with wood filler and let it dry. For a beautiful finish, sand the touch-ups before applying taint or oil on the pieces.

3- FIX THE NUMBERS TO THE WALL SUPPORT

  • In a vertical orientation on the 36 in board, fix the numbers starting from the top of the board, leaving enough space above the flower box so that the flowers do not hide the address. Make sure to leave about 1 in of space between each number. For the installation, follow the instructions provided with your product’s package.

4- AFFIX THE ADDRESS PLATE TO THE WALL

  • To allow air to circulate between the wall and the address plate, glue the two trims saved during preparation on the back of the plate: one on top, between the first and the second number, and one at the bottom, opposite the flower box. Screw the address plate to the wall through the trims using a drill and treated wood screws of 2 1/2 in. Then you only have to fill the box with soil, plant your favorite flowers, and admire your good work!
